November 16, 2008 was the day when groups of Vijay fans arrived at the Government Guest House, Chepauk to raise their voices against the brutal killing of Sri Lankan Tamils along with their star ‘Ilayathalapathy’ Vijay. This one day fasting was organized by Vijay Fans Association in order to urge the government to put a stop to the killing of Tamilians in Sri Lanka in the ongoing Civil war.

The event started at 8am with S.A. Chandrashekar, Vijay’s father, addressing the gathering. He made it very clear that this gathering was to show accord against the genocide in Sri Lanka. The venue was covered by posters that depicted the sufferings of the people of Sri Lanka and that urged the fans to raise their voice against this brutality.

Fans who were at the fast from 8am were happy to see their star ‘Ilayathalapathy’ Vijay, who arrived at the venue at 10 am along with his wife, Mrs. Sangeetha Vijay and his mother, Mrs. Shobha Chandrashekar. The event was also graced by some known personalities from the film fraternity. Some of the well known personalities were Sriman, ‘Jayam’ Raja, Vikranth, Perarasu, Mansoor Ali Khan  and Selvabharathy. All the people on the stage extended their voice for the cause.

Later in the day, Mr. P.Nedumaran, an allegiant supporter of the Eelam Tamil’s struggle for the past 30 years, and Mr. T.Pandiyan, of CPI,  joined hands in the protest. Both of them had spoke about the barbarous killing of the innocent tamils and also appealed to the government to take immediate action against this.

Vijay addressed the media saying that he and his fans were gathered there in order to show their accord against the killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka. He also said that he was very happy and proud as his fans had gathered in 37 places around the state for the cause. He humbly said that he was happy and privileged that he was a part of the protest and urged the government to take action to stop the civil war. He spoke a few words in Singhala in order to show support to the Sri Lankans. He thanked all his fans who took part in the protest and the fast ended with Mrs. Shobha Chandrashekar distributing juice to all the fans present there. Vijay has once again showed to his fans that they should work for the welfare of the people and society and we at Vijay Fans Network are happy to express our gratitude towards our KING!!!

Later funds were collected for providing basic necessities for the Sri Lankans tamils. This was collected by the officials of Vijay Fans Association and was later handed over our Chief Minister Mr.M.Karunanidhi on 20^th  November. This event has made Vijay proud and wanted to express his gratitude towards his fans through our site.
